Comforting Sloppy Joes

Growing up in a small Michigan town with a large Polish population, these sloppy joes seemed to be at every wedding, graduation, and funeral. Slightly sweet with a little tang, just like potato chips, you can’t eat just one!

Step: 1

Heat oil in a large pan, skillet, or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Saute onion in the hot oil until softened, about 5 minutes. Add beef; cook and stir until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain off any excess fat.

Step: 2

Stir ketchup, mustard, vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper into the pan; mix until thoroughly combined. Let simmer over low heat, 15 to 20 minutes. Adjust salt and pepper to your liking.

Step: 3

Serve on hamburger buns.
